Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut Congressional Delegation and Governor Ned Lamont announced that the Connecticut Fire Academy has been awarded a grant of $334,789 by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through its Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This funding will be used to enhance the academy’s training programs, equipment, and overall operations, ultimately improving the safety and effectiveness of firefighters across Connecticut.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) introduced the Assault Weapons Financing Accountability Act to ban use of Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) for purchasing assault weapons and ghost gun kits that could be used to build them. Banning use of instant financing like BNPL options for assault weapons and the ghost gun kits is a step toward reducing the instant accessibility of these weapons and preventing the tragedies of gun violence before they occur.

West Hartford, CT — When he introduced President Joe Biden at a national gun reform summit at the University of Hartford on Friday, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy said they legislation they had come to celebrate “would not have happened without Joe Biden.”

“He told me, ‘I care about this issue so deeply in my bones, the safety of our kids. I’m willing to take any chance, no matter how remote, to get something done,’” Murphy said. “We have a president who eats, sleeps and breathes the fight to end this epidemic, our president, President Joe Biden.”

Washington, D.C. - During the Ways and Means Committee markup of the Republican tax plan, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) spoke out against their plan to cut taxes for the wealthy and well-connected and leave working-class Americans behind. Republicans also rejected an amendment Larson co-sponsored to lift the cap on the State and Local Tax deduction to prevent working families from being double-taxed.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) joined Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) to introduce the American Family Act, which would make the monthly Child Tax Credit permanent. In 2021, the expanded Child Tax Credit Democrats passed as part of the American Rescue Plan COVID relief package created the largest drop in child poverty in a single year.
