Larson: President Biden’s Plan to Strengthen Social Security is the Practical and Pragmatic Solution

March 17, 2024

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) dismissed President Biden’s plan to strengthen Social Security by ensuring the wealthy pay their fair share on Meet the Press

“The President’s call to strengthen Social Security by making the wealthy pay their fair share is not only fair, but also the practical and pragmatic solution,” said Larson. “While the vast majority of Americans pay into Social Security with each and every paycheck, millionaires stopped paying in for the year earlier this month. ‘Scrapping the cap’ on the less than one percent of Americans making more than $400,000 a year will allow us to keep Social Security solvent and enhance benefits for the first time in more than 50 years. While Donald Trump and my Republican colleagues continue their calls to put hard-working Americans’ earned benefits in jeopardy, Democrats are united with President Biden around a fair, common-sense approach that will strengthen Social Security, not cut it.”
