Securing Federal Funding

For 27 years, Congressman Larson has consistently delivered vital federal funding to the First Congressional District, ensuring that cities, towns, and nonprofits have the support needed to serve our constituents. These grants create jobs and save you money; they cover costs that hospitals would otherwise have to pass on to you, they pay for state and municipal projects that would otherwise need to be funded though increased local taxes, and foster public-private partnerships that create jobs and engage industry. Whether it’s securing a multimillion-dollar earmark to reconstruct the North End’s storm water drainage system, helping a fire department win funding to buy new protective gear, or working with the state to deliver funding to create a new train station in Windsor Locks, Rep. Larson has used his seat in Congress to invest in all 27 First District communities.

Throughout his tenure, Congressman Larson has secured nearly $4 billion in federal funding for the district. Below are just some of the projects that Rep. Larson has worked to secure:

  • $28.6 million for the state to identify and replace lead-laden water pipes, making drinking water cleaner and safer for residents

  • $19 million RAISE grant to radically reconfigure North Main Street in Hartford, building out sidewalks and new lanes to make it easier to bike, walk, and grab a bus in the capital city

  • $1.6 million congressional earmark for the Barkhamsted Housing Trust to help cover the costs to construct 20 affordable housing units at the Mallory View Housing development

  • $46 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding was sent to Bristol, $2.4 million of which was used to establish the BristolWORKS! Program, providing job training and education in the fields of manufacturing, child care, IT, and healthcare for folks in the Greater Bristol area

  • $1.2 million in SAFER grant funding for the Southington Fire Department to fully a staff a 3rd fire station in Milldale, expanding fire coverage and improving resident safety

  • $17.4 million in Department of Transportation funding to construct a brand new train station in Windsor Locks along the Hartford Line, making it easier for residents of Northern Connecticut to access Bradley Airport, and travel throughout the New England region

  • $2 million in federal funding for the Town of Wethersfield to improve the Harvey Fuller Senior Housing complex, by removing asbestos and renovating units for our seniors

  • $17 million in congressional earmark funding for the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology to expand its facilities and offer manufacturing job training programs, keeping Connecticut workers skilled and employed in an ever-changing economy

  • $62.5 million EPA grant for the state’s Project Sunbridge initiative, covering the costs of solar panel installations for medium and low-income residents of the state, delivering cheaper, more efficient energy to homes at significantly reduced costs

  • $6.5 million in Department of Energy funding to strengthen and safeguard our state’s electric grid from natural disasters and storms
