Larson Announces $1.6 Million in Federal Funding for Mallory View Affordable Housing Development in Barkhamsted

Barkhamsted, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced $1.6 million in federal Community Project Funding he secured in Congress to support the construction of 20 new housing units at the Mallory View Affordable Housing Development.
“Everyone deserves access to quality and affordable housing, regardless of zip code,” said Larson. “I secured funding through my work in Congress to support the construction of 20 new affordable housing units at the Mallory View Affordable Housing development – making it the first dedicated affordable housing in the area. I want to thank Barkhamsted Housing Trust for their dedication to housing equity and leadership on this project, and I will continue to work to advocate for funding for critical housing projects like these and find ways to lower costs for American families looking to rent or buy a home.”
“The Barkhamsted Housing Trust was formed five years ago by residents who saw the need in Barkhamsted for affordable housing for all ages. The Trust became a 501(c)3 non-profit, and in conjunction with the Town, received a Community Development Block Grant to purchase property and to design a housing complex that fits with the rural nature of the Town,” said former First Selectman and Housing Trust Board Member Don Stein. “That vision is becoming a reality as the Trust is ready to go out to bid for a 20-unit complex, consisting of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units just off of Route 44 near a shopping center. The funding that is included in this year’s Congressional budget will be used for infrastructure, and once we have a firm bid, the Trust will pursue other grants and financing to turn this vision into a reality.”
Rep. Larson secured this funding for the FY2024 appropriations process, which was included in the bipartisan government funding bill signed by President Biden in March.
