Hundreds of displaced tenants have moved back into Concierge Apartments in Rocky Hill after a disastrous series of water line breaks, flooding and electrical failures, but more than 200 apartments remain shut down with their residents staying in hotels or with family or friends.
Local and state officials report large work crews on the property every day, and are optimistic that the last two buildings can be put back in service by the first days of March.
BRISTOL — Congressman John Larson and Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz presented city leaders with a check for a $3,150,000 federal earmark to “jumpstart the city’s plans for a joint police and fire training facility.”
Larson and Bysiewicz presented a large check to local police and fire commissioners at City Hall. They were joined by Rep. Mary Fortier, members of the City Council, Officer Alec Iurato, Fire Chief Richard Hart and Police Chief Mark Morello.
Three years after losing two police officers to an ambush by a deranged and armed resident, Bristol is looking to open a facility in the next two to three years to help police across Connecticut train for various kinds of active shooter situations.
The goal is to construct a two-story facility that would house a state of the art training center where police would practice how to deal with armed attackers in complex buildings where tactics can vary depending on corners, doorways, stairwells and other features.
Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced $1 million in new federal funding to expand the Harriott Community Healthcare Academy, supporting efforts to train new care workers as Connecticut faces a severe healthcare worker shortage.
ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WFSB) - Federal lawmakers are calling for an investigation into J.R.K. Property Holdings as the state continues its probe into the owners of Concierge Apartments, where hundreds of residents remain displaced in hotels following burst pipes that condemned the buildings.
BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut lawmakers are working to ensure first responders are prepared for active shooter situations, beginning with $3.15 million in federal funding that was announced Tuesday.
“Even though we don’t have a building and a facility, we have vision,” U.S. Rep. John Larson (D, CT-1) said.
The funding will support the construction of a two-story active shooter training facility in Bristol, equipped with a 50-yard indoor police firing range and other mentoring and training opportunities.
ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut lawmakers are applying pressure toward an out-of-state property ownership group after dozens of tenants were evacuated from a Rocky Hill Apartment building.
For two weeks, tenants of the Concierge Apartments have been living out of suitcases in hotel rooms due to water damage, no heat and other issues. JRK Holdings, the Los Angeles-based company which owns the complex, has been paying for their stays.
Rep. John Larson and Sen. Chris Murphy stopped by the Concierge Apartments in Rocky Hill on Tuesday afternoon to get a better look at the damage.
“This place was in disarray to begin with,” said Murphy after taking a walk inside. “I mean, this hadn’t happened at this scale before.”
At the beginning of the month, a broken heating and hot water system, burst pipes, flooding, and a failing fire suppression system led to the evacuation of approximately 2,000 people, according to the town. Larson and Murphy say federal legislation is needed to prevent this from happening again.
