Larson: President Biden’s Budget Protects and Strengthens Social Security

March 11, 2024

Washington, D.C. - Today, Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after President Biden released his Fiscal Year 2025 budget plan, laying out a vision to protect and strengthen Social Security.

“President Biden’s budget builds on the progress we have made over the last three years and lays out a vision to protect Americans’ earned benefits,” said Larson. “The President was clear during the State of the Union last week: rather than cutting benefits, it’s time to strengthen Social Security. His budget will enhance benefits for the 70 million Americans who rely on Social Security by making the wealthy pay their fair share and ensure the Social Security Administration, under the leadership of Commissioner O’Malley, has the funding it needs to properly serve the American people. Social Security 2100, which has the support of nearly 200 House Democrats, would accomplish these goals by enhancing benefits for the first time in more than 50 years.”

Ranking Member Larson’s Social Security 2100 Act would extend the program’s solvency and increase benefits across-the-board by heeding President Biden’s call to scrap the cap on Americans making more than $400,000 a year – so they pay into Social Security with each and every paycheck.
