Washington, D.C. - Today, Social Security Subcommittee Ranking Member John B. Larson (CT-01), during the Ways and Means Committee markup of legislation to provide a $70 billion tax break to the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the Social Security Trust Fund, offered an amendment to protect the solvency of the Trust Fund. Republicans are barreling toward a government shutdown as they fight for cuts to programs like Social Security. Every Republican on the Committee voted against Larson’s amendment to protect the Trust Fund during the markup.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released this statement after it was reported that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy refused a request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to deliver an address to a joint meeting of Congress during his visit to Washington. It was also reported that McCarthy went further by denying a classified briefing to all members of the House from top military and intelligence officials regarding the situation in Ukraine.

Washington, D.C. – Today, on National Voter Registration Day, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) joined every House Democrat in introducing H.R. 14, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. The bill would protect the right to vote and safeguard our democracy by restoring and modernizing the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA). Ten years ago, the Supreme Court gutted the VRA and unleashed a wave of discriminatory state laws targeting voters and restricting voting access.
