Larson Votes to Avert Holiday Shutdown, Secures Disaster Relief for Connecticut Farmers

December 20, 2024

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for a funding bill that keeps government open, averting a Musk-Trump holiday shutdown. The bill also included $23 million in relief for Connecticut farmers recovering from crop losses due to severe flooding and frost.

“Today we stood up and stopped Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s efforts to shut down the government ahead of the holidays,” said Larson. “Once again, Democrats stood united and voted to keep government open for the people we serve. I was proud to secure critical relief for farmers in my District and across Connecticut who are recovering from the flooding and frost that devastated their crops and ensure both federal workers and our troops continue to receive their paychecks. However, this unprecedented chaos is a preview of how we can expect House Republicans, President-elect Trump, and Elon Musk to legislate in the future. I am thankful for the leadership of Rep. Rosa DeLauro and Leader Jeffries and hope we can continue to work together to fully fund the government and important community projects in the new year.”

The funding agreement passed by the House:

  • Prevents a Musk-Trump holiday shutdown that would have forced more than 16,000 federal workers and active-duty servicemembers in Connecticut to go without pay

  • Secures an estimated $23 million in relief for Connecticut farmers recovering from crop losses due to severe flooding and frost

  • Authorizes additional funding to continue submarine manufacturing programs in Connecticut, including at Electric Boat in Groton
