Larson Opposes Billionaire-Backed Bill that Fails Working Families
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after the Musk-Trump funding bill failed on the House floor, leaving the nation barreling toward a holiday shutdown.
“I am proud of the bipartisan rejection of Elon Musk’s proposed funding bill,” said Larson. “After a billionaire who operates outside of the cabinet and Congress told his associate Mr. Trump what to do, the Republican leadership broke their word and abandoned an agreement that had been negotiated by Democrats and Republicans alike. This is not how legislation is done. I was proud our whole delegation stood together and opposed this new bill that gutted critical programs for working families, including funding for childhood cancer research, early detection for cervical cancer and breast cancer, community health centers, and nutrition assistance programs. This is a glimpse of what the future will be, but I am proud that the House spoke out against Elon Musk and Donald Trump in a bipartisan manner. Now let us hope we can get back to the original deal that was constructed to keep government funded and finally deliver relief to our farmers.”
