Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on the Biden-McCarthy debt limit agreement: 

“I applaud President Biden for forging a path forward to avoid a catastrophic default and will continue to work with him to fight back against Republican proposed cuts to Social Security, Medicare and veteran’s benefits, and their continued assault on the poor,” said Larson.

If Congress does not lift the debt limit prior to the expected default date of June 1st, there would be unprecedented economic and human consequences.

Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Lloyd Doggett (TX-37), Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC-AL), and Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), urged President Biden to take decisive action under the 14th Amendment to prevent a default if Congressional leaders are unable to reach a legislative solution to raise the debt ceiling.
