In an effort to gather information and disseminate it to those affected, U.S. Rep. John Larson held a roundtable discussion at the Glastonbury Town Hall, on July 31, about what the state and federal government is doing to aid farms affected by the recent flooding, and what could be done better.
Several business people, town leaders, and farmers from several towns were in attendance.
Over the last two years, drought, frost and now flooding have hit Connecticut farms, and as weather-related disasters become more common, the farmers are pushing Congress to fix a crop insurance program they say hasn’t worked for them.
With the federal farm bill, an omnibus package of farm programs and funding passed by Congress every five years, up for renewal this year, the legislation could offer an avenue for changes to the insurance program.
Hartford, CT - Today, the Connecticut Congressional Delegation announced that the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP) will receive $3 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program to develop and implement plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful air pollution. The grant program is funded by the Inflation Reduction Act.

Hartford, CT – Today, the Connecticut Congressional Delegation and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that the University of Connecticut (UConn) has been selected to serve as an “Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center” (EJ TCTAC) that will receive at least $10 million to help communities across the New England region and elsewhere access funds from President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.
Hartford, CT – The Connecticut Congressional delegation today announced that Connecticut will receive an additional $10.6 million in regular Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funds to assist homeowners with their energy bills.
The $560 million in LIHEAP funds, of which Connecticut will receive $10.6 million, is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and comes at a time when energy assistance remains in high demand.
Hartford, CT – Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Connecticut Congressional Delegation announced $28,424,000 to Connecticut from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure through this year’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF). The funding will support Connecticut communities in upgrading essential water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure that protects public health and treasured water bodies.
