Larson Statement on Clean Energy Layoffs Across Connecticut
East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after solar installer PosiGen announced plans to lay off most of their Connecticut workforce.
“Yet again, President Trump is raising costs for everyday Americans – this time on your electricity bill,” said Larson. “Between his administration’s decision to shut down the near-complete Revolution Wind Project and their termination of approved solar projects, almost 300 people just lost their jobs. I worked with my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee to pass the most significant investment in clean energy in our nation’s history – but now, this President wants to dismantle progress at all costs because he thinks climate change is a hoax. If these misguided and vindictive actions are not reversed, thousands of Connecticut households will be stuck paying more for their electricity from an increasingly unreliable power grid for years to come. These attacks on hard-working families and their wallets must not stand.”
In 2022, Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act, including new investments and incentives for solar, clean hydrogen, and wind energy that Rep. Larson championed on the Ways and Means Committee. Earlier this year, the Trump Administration canceled $62.5 million in approved Solar for All grant funding for the State of Connecticut, and Republicans in Congress repealed tax credits homeowners rely on to improve energy efficiency, including the installation of solar panels.
