Larson Announces $500,000 for Mothers United Against Violence’s Victim Impact Project
Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced $500,000 in new federal funding for Mothers United Against Violence’s Victim Impact Project to support victims of violent crimes in the Greater Hartford area as they work with their local police departments.
“In Connecticut, we know all too well the pain gun violence inflicts on families and communities, and Mothers United Against Violence are a unique voice standing on the frontlines to directly support families impacted by the gun violence epidemic and speak from experience to advocate for policy solutions to prevent these tragedies,” said Larson. “It was my honor to champion their funding request in Congress because the Victim Impact Project is a proven model for the nation on how communities can come together to offer trauma support when tragedy strikes and navigate the criminal justice system.”
“We want to thank Congressman Larson and our entire Connecticut Delegation for understanding how important this issue of gun violence is: an epidemic and a state of emergency,” said Henrietta Beckman, Rev. Henry Brown, Deborah Davis, and Freddie Graves of Mothers United Against Violence. “The funding will be utilized to further our work in the intervention and prevention of gun violence. We have been working on the front lines for over 18 years and believe these resources will help provide more direct services to families impacted by violence within our Victim Impact Program. Our goal is to help deter violence and save more lives.”
Rep. Larson secured funding for the Victim Impact Project in the Fiscal Year 2023 government funding package, which was signed into law by President Biden last December. Last week, Mothers United Against Violence visited the U.S. Capitol with Rep. Larson to meet with Members of Congress to advocate for action to address gun violence in America.
