Larson, Mothers United Against Violence Advocate for Gun Violence Solutions in Washington

April 27, 2023

Washington, D.C. - This week, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) joined with Mothers United Against Violence (MUAV) in Washington to advocate for action to address gun violence in America. MUAV and Larson met with other leaders in Washington and spoke at a press conference with the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

You can watch the press conference here.

“Mothers United Against Violence are a unique voice that cuts through the normal rhetoric to the heart of the pain and suffering that continues long after the shooting. They understand more clearly than others the need to end this violence and to help heal and recover from the tragic loss of life. More children die from gun violence than anything else. That’s why I was honored to bring them here to deliver their message. They are willing to sit with any Republican who will look them in the eye and hear their story, and then vote,” said Larson.

“Mothers United Against Violence and all of our mothers who made this journey with us today from Hartford, Bridgeport, New Haven, and from across Connecticut, we want everyone to ‘Hear our Voices.’ We want to make sure leaders in Congress hear our voices and believe our work and our commitment to this effort isn’t just about us. It’s about saving lives. All of us have children, but for everyone’s child we want them to know one thing: people are on the frontlines working to prevent their lives from being taken senselessly. We have initiated a statewide coalition- Lifelines for Mothers. Our cries turn into our work. We want them to know our work is not in vain. Addressing access to guns, addressing the inequity in our country, housing, poverty- all of it! Now we want to focus on how do we make change and rewrite the narratives for those who are involved in this violence. My heart goes out to every mother, father, sister, brother of every person who has lost someone in a shooting. We are so saddened, but this is why we do what we do. This is what we want people to hear in Congress; we need not just Democrats but support from Republicans. We will continue this important work with valued members like Rep. Larson to finally put an end to these tragedies,” said Mothers United Against Violence Co-Founders Henrietta Beckman, Rev. Henry Brown, and Deborah Davis, Program & Development Manager.
