HARTFORD — From New London to Danbury, numerous highways and bridges will now be repaired in Connecticut with the passage of the long-delayed federal infrastructure bill.
The Connecticut Congressional delegation hailed the passage of the $1.25 trillion bill as they stood Monday on the train platform at Hartford’s Union Station. They were surrounded by construction workers who will be building the projects that include railroads and highways, among others.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut’s Congressional Delegation met on Monday to celebrate the final passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill.
They say it will deliver historic investment in Connecticut’s highways, mass transit, and clean energy while improving lives and creating thousands of jobs.
“It puts people back to work rebuilding America,” said Congressman John Larson.
The House approved a $1 trillion package of road and other infrastructure projects late Friday in a 228-206 vote.

SOUTHINGTON, Conn. — State officials announced Tuesday a million-dollar grant to support a local fire department’s staffing and response efforts.
With the SAFER grant, Southington Fire will receive $1.2 million.
The grant program provides funding to local fire departments to increase the number of trained, frontline firefighters.
It’s a step in the right direction for the department, which currently takes an average of 10 minutes to arrives at the scene of a fire, officials said.
Two of Connecticut’s Democratic congressmen are hailing the House of Representatives’ passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2022 as a victory for national defense and the state’s economy.
U.S. Rep. John B. Larson, D-1st District, announced Friday that almost $600,000 in federal money will go to fire departments in East Windsor, Glastonbury, and Hartford.
Larson said in a statement that money from the fiscal year 2020 Assistance to Firefighters Grant, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will be dispersed to the departments.

EAST HARTFORD — U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in East Hartford to mark the enhanced federal child tax credit now being paid with the goal of lifting families out of poverty, said Wednesday she wants to make the enhanced benefit permanent.
“The goal of the rescue package was to put vaccines in people’s arms [and] money in people’s pockets,’' the Democrat told reporters outside Goodwin University.
“We want to make it permanent.’'
Rep. John Larson, D-Conn., chairman of the House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee, plans to introduce this fall — likely later this month — a revised bill, called Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust, to increase benefits and extend the program’s solvency.
