Public Forum on Protecting and Enhancing Social Security
Dear Friends-
Social Security isn't an entitlement, it's the insurance you've paid for. It is the working American's retirement guarantee, providing economic security for millions of Americans including seniors, people with disabilities, and children and spouses who have lost a provider. We need to the enhance the program's benefits so that no one who has worked their whole life retires into poverty.
This week, as Chairman of the Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee, I led two hearings focused on protecting and improving Social Security. Throughout these hearings, I heard anecdotes from a number of citizens on the urgency of expanding and enhancing Social Security. These hearings underscore the critical value of Social Security, especially for women and people of color.
On Monday, March 18th I will be hosting a public forum on the future of Social Security. Please join me alongside Bloomfield Mayor Suzette DeBeatham-Brown as I talk about the importance of protecting Social Security and how the Social Security 2100 Act will enhance benefits for current and future retirees.
