Press Conference on the Earned Income Tax Credit

On Friday, January 28th at 11 am, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01), Governor Ned Lamont, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz will hold a virtual press conference as part of Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day to highlight the significance of the Earned Income Tax Credit.
The Earned Income Tax Credit is available to low- to moderate-income working Americans. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is holding a nationwide day of awareness to spread the word about the availability of this tax credit. Taxpayers can learn more about the tax credit here.
Through his work on the Ways and Means Committee, Larson expanded this tax credit to include childless working-seniors and young adults for the first time and increased the credit amount for childless workers. Governor Lamont recently announced that he is using the state's final portion of the $1.38 billion federal Coronavirus Relief Fund to retroactively enhance the 2020 Connecticut Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) from 23% of the federal credit to 41.5%. The additional state tax refund coupled with the expansion of the federal tax credit will provide needed economic support to low-to-moderate income working individuals and families disproportionately burdened by COVID-19 and its negative economic impacts.
