Community Discussion With Religious Leaders
On Saturday, February 4th, I will host a community discussion with leaders of the Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities in the First District in order to facilitate a dialogue on the recent executive order issued by the Trump Administration.
I invite you to join the conversation regarding the executive order that blocked admission of Syrian refugees indefinitely, and instated a 120-day suspension of the Refugee Admissions Program and a 90-day suspension of travelers from the 7 Muslim-majority countries. I have been outspoken in opposition to the Administration's actions and I have joined the rest of the Connecticut delegation in cosponsoring the Statue of Liberty Values (SOLVE) Act, which would nullify this order.
Because the Administration's actions have generated so much attention, outrage, and confusion, I hope to bring the community together and discuss the recent developments. The intent of this forum is to facilitate a dialogue where all points of view are welcome and heard respectfully with the goal of gaining a greater understanding of how these actions affect the community and what to expect going forward.
