SNAP Benefits During the Government Shutdown

The Trump Administration has announced that they will let SNAP benefits lapse on Saturday, November 1st, for all beneficiaries. Congress has authorized contingency funding to ensure food assistance continues to flow during the shutdown, but the White House has announced that they will not authorize these funds to be used.

My office has prepared this web page to address your Frequently Asked Questions and is available to help during this period of uncertainty. If you need assistance, please call my East Hartford office at 860-278-8888.

Will I get my November SNAP benefits on time?

No new funds have been allocated for SNAP. While SNAP benefits must continue to go out by law, the Trump Administration has announced that funding will not be released. This means that November benefits will not arrive on time – unless this decision is reversed.

Will I ever get my November SNAP benefits?

Yes. When the government reopens, SNAP benefits will be restored to EBT cards as soon as possible.

Will I have access to my EBT excess October benefits in November?

Yes, any already-issued benefits will remain available to you on your EBT card.

Where can I get food if I don’t have my SNAP benefits?

For information on nearby food pantries, visit the Connecticut Department of Social Services website. Farmers’ markets across the state also accept and double nutrition assistance benefits like SNAP and WIC.

Additionally, Governor Lamont has authorized $3 million to CT Foodshare to help provide up to 6 million additional meals over the next two weeks to help ease the additional strain on our food banks.

What about my WIC benefits?

There is no immediate impact to WIC families in Connecticut despite the federal government shutdown. CT WIC families should attend scheduled appointments and shop with their WIC cards.

Thanks to funding released from the federal government and the state of Connecticut, WIC funding is continuing uninterrupted for now.
