Larson Votes to Repeal Corrupt Senate Republican Slush Fund
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted to repeal millions in taxpayer-funded cash payouts Senate Republicans voted to give themselves in last week’s ‘dirty’ funding deal, a move Larson blasted as “one of the most corrupt things I have ever witnessed.”
“As if it wasn’t bad enough for Republicans to refuse to dedicate a penny for health care in their funding bill, it was beyond the pale for eight Republican Senators to gift themselves millions in taxpayer dollars,” said Larson. “That vote was the single most corrupt act I have ever witnessed in my public life. While I am glad the House acted to resoundingly reject these corrupt cash payouts to our Senate colleagues, tonight’s vote leaves us with little chance of this bill actually becoming law. Democrats tried to remove this provision during last week’s session, but Republicans voted it down. Just last night, Senator Graham doubled down on Fox News, saying he would try to recoup ‘tens of millions of dollars’ from American taxpayers, and Leader Thune has so far rejected our calls to act in the Senate. If these Senators feel so strongly that their privacy was violated by a lawful subpoena, they should have been up in arms when Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE’ minions moved every American’s personal records from Social Security to a vulnerable cloud – perhaps the largest ever data breach in our nation’s history. We’ve heard nothing from them on that, but I guess we all should rest easy knowing Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz will be cashing in at our expense.”
Last week, Senate Republicans snuck a provision into their ‘dirty’ funding deal to facilitate the transfer of millions of taxpayer dollars to the personal bank accounts of eight Republican senators. These Senators, including Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Ted Cruz (R-TX), had their records lawfully subpoenaed as part of a federal investigation into the deadly January 6th attack on the United States Capitol.
