Larson Votes Against Dirty Senate ‘Deal’ That Fails to Address Trump Health Care Crisis

November 12, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against the Senate's dirty funding ‘deal’ that does nothing to lower health care costs but includes millions in taxpayer-funded payouts to Senate Republicans. If Republicans allow Affordable Care Act tax credits to expire, 19,000 CT-01 residents will see premiums spike, and the average family of four will see their annual premiums rise by $2,571.

“Donald Trump and his Republican puppets in Congress didn’t have my vote when they created this health care crisis, and they don’t have it now,” said Larson. “Their refusal to extend health care tax credits means the average family in my district will see their premium costs rise by $2,571. One of my constituents even shared how his premiums will double, exceeding what he pays for his mortgage. That is not only unacceptable. It is immoral! On Donald Trump’s watch, 15 million Americans are about to lose their health care. Millions more about to be saddled with skyrocketing premiums, including 112,000 people in Connecticut.

“Instead of fighting to ensure Americans have the health care they need, the fight in the Senate was resolved by ensuring eight Republican Senators padded their wallets at the expense of American taxpayers — as a political payout for having their records lawfully subpoenaed! If Republicans truly felt the current process was an invasion of privacy, why are eight Senators the only ones eligible for a payout? Why not all Americans? Tonight’s vote is the most corrupt provision this chamber will vote on — ensuring a select few Senators will receive millions in taxpayer dollars. This only adds insult to injury already endured by the millions of Americans losing their health care coverage to pay for tax breaks for billionaires,” Larson concluded.
