Larson Visits Mark Twain House, Announces New Preservation Assistance Grant

Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) visited Hartford’s Mark Twain House as part of Invite Congress to Visit Your Museum Week and announced the museum was awarded a $10,000 Preservation Assistance Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
"Mark Twain is one of the great American authors and visionaries, and the Mark Twain House is a Hartford cultural treasure,” said Larson. “Museums offer educational opportunities for all ages in the community and support hundreds of thousands of jobs across the country. That’s why I fought to ensure museums like the Mark Twain House received COVID relief dollars to keep the lights on through the pandemic. I am excited to announce they are receiving this grant today to preserve their collections and expand programming available to the public.”
“The Mark Twain House is thrilled to have received the NEH Preservation Assistance Grant. Receiving an NEH grant is always a national mark of approval, and for a site whose subject is an iconic American historical figure, NEH’s assistance to preserve his legacy is crucial to our efforts,” said Pieter Roos, Executive Director of the Mark Twain House & Museum.
With this new grant, the Mark Twain House will purchase custom book boxes and book shoes to improve their ability to preserve and care for their collections.
