Larson Statement on Announcement That Denise Merrill Will Be Stepping Down as Secretary of the State

Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on Secretary of the State Denise Merrill’s announcement she will be stepping down: 

“Denise Merrill’s career in public service has epitomized integrity, compassion, character, and principled, centered leadership. Her decades of service to the State of Connecticut, both in the General Assembly and as Secretary of the State, have been underscored by her openness and accessibility to the public and her commitment to the citizens of the State of Connecticut,” said Larson. “She is again demonstrating her character by stepping down so she can care for her husband. Secretary Merrill and Dr. Leach are in our thoughts and prayers and our hearts go out to her and her husband, wishing them only the best.”
