Larson Opposes Republican Funding Bill That Attacks Veterans, Seniors, and Families
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) opposed the partisan House Republican funding bill that cuts services for veterans, seniors, and families, and greenlights Trump-Musk's plan to gut the Social Security Administration.
“With only days to go before a devastating government shutdown, House Republicans walked away from bipartisan funding negotiations and instead are pushing a bill to cut health care, housing, and other critical services, including projects right here in Connecticut’s First District,” said Larson. “Democrats are ready to work together to keep government open for the American people, but we will never go along with these cuts that will hurt veterans, seniors, and families, and give Donald Trump and Elon Musk the green light to gut Social Security. Trump-Musk are taking an axe to the Social Security Administration so they can privatize the system and cut benefits to pay for $2 trillion in tax cuts for their billionaire friends. While Republicans play shutdown games with the American people’s government, Democrats continue to fight to protect Social Security for the 70 million Americans who rely on their benefits to make ends meet.”
The partisan House Republican funding bill:
Shortchanges funding to care for veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances by $22.8 billion
Allows Elon Musk and Donald Trump to implement their plan to gut Social Security by firing workers and closing field offices
Rejects $15.9 million in Community Project Funding for Connecticut’s First Congressional District
Cuts rent subsidies for low-income and working Americans by more than $700 million, leaving more than 32,000 households at risk of eviction
Cuts funding for the National Institutes of Health by $280 million, including for cancer and Alzheimer’s research
