Larson Hosts Community Conversation on Lower Health Care Costs in Bloomfield

September 7, 2022

Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) hosted a community conversation in Bloomfield with Mayor Danielle Wong and Access Health CT CEO James Michel to discuss the health care savings available to consumers from the newly passed Inflation Reduction Act.

“More than a decade after Democrats fought to make the Affordable Care Act law, we are building on that achievement to provide lower premiums for consumers,” said Larson. “I was proud to support the Inflation Reduction Act because it is another step forward in our effort to ensure affordable and accessible health care for all Americans. I want to thank Mayor Wong and the entire team at Access Health Connecticut for coming together tonight to help constituents access these record savings.”

“The Inflation Reduction Act will bring down costs for Connecticut residents who purchase health insurance from Access Health CT, Connecticut’s official health insurance marketplace,” said James Michel, Chief Executive Officer of Access Health CT. “Our entire Congressional delegation have been fierce advocates for the health of Connecticut residents and have helped Access Health CT raise awareness about the financial help now available to Connecticut residents. These inflation-fighting savings make a difference, not only in our residents’ wallets, but to keep them healthy today and into the future.”

“I was glad to bring my neighbors together to speak with Congressman Larson and Bloomfield's own James Michel on this historic legislation,” said Bloomfield Mayor Danielle Wong. “The Inflation Reduction Act is a game changer. Congressman Larson and our state's delegation have delivered on a promise to lower health care costs, fight climate change, tax wealthy corporations and bring reform to prescription drug pricing.”

The Inflation Reduction Act will ensure no American pays more than 8.5% of their income on their health insurance premiums. The average Connecticut resident enrolled through the Access Health CT insurance exchange will save more than $1,600 in premiums.
