Larson Calls for Tax Reform That’s Fair for the Middle-Class

Washington, D.C. – In today's Ways and Means Committee hearing, "The 2017 Tax Law and Who it Left Behind," Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) highlighted how Connecticut middle-class families are paying more, while the wealthy get a tax break:
"The galling thing for a number of us, is that immediately after passage of the GOP tax law they said the problem is now with our entitlements, like Social Security and Medicare, it's not the inequities in the law. For those in Connecticut filing their taxes right now, they're finding they're being double-taxed under the law. Connecticut families are subsidizing the tax cut for the wealthiest in the nation," said Larson. "Now the Republicans are shifting to say we need ‘entitlement' reform to pay for this. Social Security and Medicare aren't entitlements! They're benefits people pay for, they're earned benefits! I thank Chairman Neal for holding this hearing so we can address how we can reform our tax code so it's fair for the middle-class, and not just the wealthy."
