Larson Calls for Senate Action on House Passed Disaster Relief Funding

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for HR 2157 to provide $17.2 billion in supplemental emergency funding for ongoing disaster recovery efforts following the hurricanes, wildfires, floods and other recent natural disasters. The House previously passed disaster relief funding (HR 268) earlier this year, but it was blocked by Senate Republicans. HR 2157 builds on the previously passed funding package and includes additional $3 billion to address the urgent needs due to flooding in the Midwest and the South.
"Puerto Rico has already waited too long for this funding. Over 3,000 people lost their lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria due to inadequate resources. Now other communities around the country are suffering too, from the California towns ravaged by wildfires, to the recent flooding in the Midwest and South, they desperately need these funds. We have an obligation to help our fellow Americans and politics should be put aside. It's time for the Senate Republicans to act with urgency," said Larson.
