Larson Calls for Action to Protect Households from Bank-Breaking Premium Hikes

September 11, 2025

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement on last night’s announcement of double-digit health care premium hikes for Connecticut residents. Larson is a cosponsor of the Health Care Affordability Act to extend premiumassistance for households who purchase health care plans on the Access Health CT exchange.

“Families are being squeezed from all ends by rising costs. 224,000 Connecticut residents just got hit with news of a double-digit premium increase for their health care,” said Larson. “Americans look to their leaders to find solutions, but in Donald Trump’s Washington, they are getting the exact opposite. His tariffs are raising costs at the pharmacy and the effects of the Republican Budget he signed into law are driving up premiums even more, but that is not the end of it. Congressional Republicans’ failure to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits means middle-class families will see price hikes as high as two thousand dollars a month. Democrats are ready to act to stop this assault on your health care costs before millions lose coverage because of it.”

As a senior member of the Ways and Means Committee, Larson worked with his colleagues to pass the Affordable Care Act and expand coverage in 2021 and 2022. Thanks to these efforts, 50 million Americans have gained coverage, bringing our nation’s uninsured rate to a record low.

President Trump and House Republicans passed a budget in July that will kick 15 million Americans off their health care, including an estimated 4.2 million who will lose coverage if Affordable Care Act credits are not extended this year.
