Larson Applauds Dismissal of Trump-Ordered Sham Prosecutions Against James Comey and Letitia James
East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after sham indictments ordered by Donald Trump against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James were dismissed in federal court.
Following complaints from the President that his political adversaries were not facing prosecution, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia was fired and unlawfully replaced with Lindsey Halligan, President Trump’s former personal attorney, who had never prosecuted a case before. She alone signed these indictments and has been accused of misrepresenting grand jury proceedings to a federal judge.
“Donald Trump’s plans to corrupt our justice system against his political enemies just suffered a crushing blow in court,” said Larson. “We all watched in horror as the President installed his personal attorney to pursue these baseless charges, something we are more used to seeing out of Russia and North Korea, not the United States of America. Today was a win for not only Director Comey and Attorney General James, but for democracy and the rule of law. We the people – united – must continue to stand strong against any of this president’s attempts to abuse the justice system. We will not allow him to turn our legal process into a political weapon.”
