Larson Applauds Critical Funding to Bolster Service at Social Security Administration

Washington, D.C. – Today, Chairman John B. Larson (CT-01) of the Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee applauded the House passage of H.R. 1865, the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2020 which included a $100 million increase for the Social Security Administration to strengthen front-line service delivery for the American public.
"This funding is an important step towards strengthening the Social Security Administration's ability to reduce benefit delays and improve customer service. The $100 million increase in funding will help to ensure Americans are able to access their earned benefits. This bill will first and foremost improve customer service, help address long benefit delays, and reduce waiting times. It will also fight back against harmful Administration proposals, such as attempts to deny Americans the right to an in-person disability appeals hearing, or to close local field offices. It also urges SSA to reinstate telework for certain employees, which SSA recently and abruptly terminated after 6 years.
"I thank Chairwomen Nita Lowey (NY-17) and Health and Human Services Chairwoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) for their unwavering leadership on this. Rosa fights day in and day out for families in Connecticut and across the country. This additional funding for the Social Security Administration is a win for all Americans," said Larson.
