Larson Applauds Announcement of $4.5 Million in Federal Funding to Prevent Flooding in North Hartford
East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement praising today’s announcement of $4.5 million in new federal funding to prevent flooding issues in Hartford’s North End.
“North Hartford residents have been devastated by repeated basement flooding and sewage overflow incidents, putting their health and safety at risk while creating a significant financial burden,” said Larson. “The entire Connecticut delegation has been focused on securing federal resources to support homeowners and invest in infrastructure upgrades to protect the community from severe flooding. I commend Senators Blumenthal and Murphy, and Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro, for their efforts to secure $4.5 million in funding to upgrade stormwater infrastructure in the North End during this year’s budget negotiations. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress, state and local officials, and the North End community, to ensure impacted homes and businesses get the relief they need, and the City of Hartford has the resources it needs to prevent future damage.”
In addition to today’s announcement, Rep. Larson secured an additional $1.6 million to make stormwater upgrades in this year’s government funding package, the Connecticut General Assembly has dedicated federal Clean Water Act funding to support North End homeowners impacted by basement flooding and sewage backups, and $1 million in Inflation Reduction Act funding was awarded to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) to support its partnership with the Keney Park Sustainability Project, Blue Hills Civic Association, and Hartford NEXT to address flooding issues.
