Larson Applauds $2 Million Grant to Help Formerly Incarcerated People

Five-year Grant Targets Reentry Services For Those Returning Home to Greater Hartford
Today, Rep. John B Larson (CT-01) applauded the recent announcement of a $2 million grant to Community Partners in Action, who has been awarded a five-year, $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
"Upon their release, we find too many of our formerly incarcerated citizens struggling to find the resources necessary to put them on a path to success" said Larson. "These programs are critical to helping citizens recently released from prison access basic needs, along with employment and treatment services that will help them live independently and contribute to our society. Congratulations to Community Partners in Action for securing this grant and thank you for the important work that you do."
"This is the first SAMHSA grant for Community Partners in Action, and we couldn't be more thrilled," said Beth Hines, the organization's executive director. "The award will expand our Resettlement program, which lost 80% of its funding in 2016 when the state eliminated its non-residential programs. Resettlement will now be able to serve an additional 275 people (55 annually) returning home from prison who are in need of substance and mental health services upon their release. We will provide pre- and post-release peer-to-peer case management services."
Community Partners in Action is a statewide organization that promotes recovery, restoration and responsibility for those who have been incarcerated. The organization will partner with InterCommunity, Inc., based in Hartford, to provide clinical treatment services and six recovery beds.
