Larson Announces Winner and Honorable Mentions of 20th Annual First Congressional District Art Competition

Hartford, CT - Last night, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced the winner of the First Congressional District Art Competition. The competition is open to any high school student in Connecticut's First District. This year there were 39 students who entered their artwork into the competition. From those, the one that took the top prize was Jayna Mikolaitis from Glastonbury High School. Mikolaitis's artwork will be displayed for 11 months at an exhibit at the U.S. Capitol. She will also receive roundtrip airfare to attend the opening ceremony of this year's exhibit, and a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design or Tennessee Wesleyan College.

"Congratulations to Jayna for winning this year's Congressional District Art Competition and to this year's honorees. I would like to thank everyone who submitted pieces and their teachers, everyone who participated is very talented," said Larson. "Every year I look forward to seeing the creative and passionate pieces that students produce. Our arts programs in our schools are vital and we must continue to support them and our students in their efforts."
