Larson Announces New Federal Funding to Advance Hartford 400 Project

Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced $900,000 in new federal funding for the iQuilt Partnership to advance the Hartford 400 Project. Rep. Larson secured this funding as part of the Fiscal Year 2022 government funding package, which was signed into law earlier this year by President Biden.
“We have made great progress this Congress to ensure the Hartford region has the funding it needs to advance the goals of Hartford 400,” said Larson. “Between the record infrastructure funding we secured for Connecticut and new funds for the iQuilt Partnership, this community-led vision is moving forward to reconnect Hartford’s North End, recapture the riverfront, free-up hundreds of acres of land on both sides of the river, expand multi-modal transit options for our region’s residents, and fix New England’s #1 traffic chokehold, the I-84/91 interchange.”
“Hartford 400 is a coalition of public and private entities working to create a more connected, more vibrant, more equitable, and more prosperous city and region by 2035,” said Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin. “This is an ambitious but achievable plan that will be a game changer for the whole Hartford region, and we're grateful to Congressman Larson for helping secure this $900,000 in federal funding to help keep the Hartford 400 initiative moving forward. We are also thankful to all the partners who have been a part of building and advocating for Hartford 400, particularly the iQuilt Partnership, and Doug Suisman, who has led so much of the design work."
“In 2035, Hartford will celebrate its 400th anniversary! Hartford 400 is a mobility project with a river-centered vision that includes East Hartford,” said East Hartford Mayor Mike Walsh. “We look forward to the planning, construction and development of East Hartford’s transportation network and riverfront-focused development in time for the 400-year celebration in 2035.”
"Congressman Larson has advocated for a transformative vision for the region and the great state of Connecticut. Hartford400 is that vision, and we are honored that he supports our efforts in this bold initiative. This funding will transform the region in countless ways, making our environment more sustainable, our economy more prosperous, our communities more equitable, our transport more mobile, and our culture more vibrant," said Jackie Gorsky Mandyck, Executive Director, iQuilt Partnership.
These funds will allow the iQuilt Partnership to continue working with the community to reconnect neighborhoods, update our outdated transportation network, create jobs, and repair flood control systems on both sides of the river.
Last year, Rep. Larson voted for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, sending more than $6 billion to Connecticut to fund infrastructure improvements, including the ongoing Greater Hartford Mobility Study that will realize the vision of Hartford 400.
