Larson Announces More Than $680,000 for Winsted Area First Responders, New Tax Incentive for Volunteer First Responders
Winsted, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced a $680,760 Assistance to Firefighters Grant for Winsted Area First Responders. He also highlighted a tax incentive for first responders that he authored, the Volunteer Responder Incentive Protection Act (VRIPA).
“Fire fighters and first responders have been on the frontlines of this pandemic. I’m glad we were able to secure $680,760 in funding to assist and support Winsted first responders. First responders put themselves in harm’s way every time they respond to a call, this funding will ensure they’re safer while doing so,” said Larson. “I’m also glad I got to speak with local volunteer fire fighters about the tax incentive I secured in Congress to ensure they don’t have to pay taxes on the small tokens of gratitude they receive from their communities in return for their service.”
This is a regional grant that will be utilized by the Winsted Fire Department, the Winchester Volunteer Fire Department, and the Winsted Area Ambulance Association to acquire portable radios, mobile radios and radio base stations. The Town of Norfolk is also a partner in this grant.
