Larson Announces $700,000 to Repair Hockanum River Linear Park Trail

East Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) joined East Hartford Mayor Mike Walsh and local leaders to announce $700,000 in new federal funding to repair the Hockanum River Linear Park Trail. These funds were secured by Larson and will be used for trail safety improvements, including repairs to damaged footbridge and boardwalk structures, as well as various flood mitigation efforts throughout East Hartford’s 3.5-mile stretch.
“I first secured a grant to expand the Hockanum River Linear Park Trail when I served in the CT State Senate,” said Larson. “Today, the trail extends through four towns – including East Hartford and Manchester. Seasonal flooding and wear and tear over the years have left the trail in a state of disrepair. I am proud to have secured this funding so First District residents can enjoy the Linear Park for another 50 years.”
“The Hockanum River Linear Trail is East Hartford’s primary walking trail and its preservation and rehabilitation are essential for encouraging active and outdoor recreation in our community. Thank you to Congressman Larson for his continued support of our community. The recently-approved $700,000 will ensure the Hockanum River Linear Trail continues to remain a favorite spot amongst our residents and visitors to our town,” said East Hartford Mayor Mike Walsh.
Rep. Larson led passage of funding to repair the Hockanum River Linear Park Trail in the House and successfully fought for its inclusion in the final government funding package, which was signed into law by President Biden on March 15th.
