Press Release

East Hartford, CT – Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced that his Community Funding Project request for the Town of East Hartford to purchase the East Hartford Downton Post Office was included in the House Transportation/HUD/Economic Development Initiatives Appropriations bill.  This funding will allow the Town of East Hartford to fulfill a longstanding goal of purchasing the post office to expand the Raymond Library.

“The Raymond Library is an essential resource for our East Hartford community. This $600,000 will allow the town to preserve the historic former post office and redevelop the building to expand the library. I thank the Mayor, Town Council, and Sarah Morgan, Director of Library Services, for working with us on this vital project,” said Larson.

“Preservation of this historic property and the potential of connecting it to our recently renovated library will expand this critical institution to provide our community access to ideas, information, technology and a variety of educational, cultural, recreational, and intellectual resources,” said East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc.

Expanding the library footprint to create a campus with the adjacent post office property provides an exciting opportunity to bring new innovative programs and services to East Hartford. At the library, we look forward to working with residents and community partners to develop a plan for the projects,” said Sarah Morgan, Director of Library Services.
