Larson Announces $5.4 million for Town of East Windsor During Business Roundtable
Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced the Town of East Windsor was awarded $5.4 million in direct aid as a result of the American Rescue Plan. The town dedicated $1.5 million to establish the Emergency Relief and Stabilization Effort (ERASE) COVID-19 grant program to support East Windsor small businesses and non-profits. During the event, which took place at the Warehouse Point Fire Department, Rep. Larson heard directly from some of the more than 100 recipients of ERASE funding.
“The American Rescue Plan put kids back in school, money in peoples’ pockets and Americans back to work,” said Larson. “It also provided critical relief for our communities and gave them the flexibility to spend it where it was needed most. I applaud First Selectman Jason Bowsza and the East Windsor Board of Selectmen for investing this money in our small businesses and not-for-profit organizations who were hit the hardest by this pandemic. Our communities are stronger and safer today because of this relief.”
“Funding made available through the American Rescue Plan has been a tremendous boost for towns and cities,” said East Windsor First Selectman Jason Bowsza. “Thanks to Congressman Larson for his advocacy and partnership, my community has been able to use some of those funds to support local businesses and nonprofits hit hard by the pandemic. We’ve seen firsthand that the federal/local partnership can really work.”
“The ERASE fund grant was a huge boost to our small business when we needed it the most. Not only did it help us in our recovery from COVID, it has also solidified our business going forward,” said Scott Neidlinger of Lingering Hills Stable.
“The Scout Hall Youth Center received a grant to install a garage door in place of our very heavy, awkward sliding door in our barn. We have invested in this barn by installing a concrete floor, electricity and water. All of our youth groups will be able to use this barn meeting space for various activities,” said Nancy Masters of East Windsor Scout Hall.
“We were happy to host Congressman John B Larson, First Selectman Jason Bowsza, and several members of our community that are recipients of the America Rescue Plan funding,” said Warehouse Point Fire District Chief James Barton. “It was humbling to listen to how different businesses were affected by the pandemic and how the American Rescue Plan funding has helped our citizens.
Chief Barton continued, “The Warehouse Point Fire Department was a recipient of a grant that greatly assisted us continuing to give to the community. The Fire Department invests in the younger generation of our community by supporting sporting organizations and contributing to scholarships for our high school students. The American Rescue Plan funding allowed the Fire Department to continue recruitment and retention of firefighters and provide scholarships. The department takes pride and strives to support our community. Congratulations to all the community recipients of the American Rescue Plan funding.”
Rep. Larson helped author and pass the American Rescue Plan Act, investing more than $755 million in cities and towns across the First Congressional District. The Town of East Windsor received $1.1 million in local aid, $2.2 million in county aid, and $1.9 million in educational aid.
