Larson Announces $423,000+ in Federal Funding for First District Fire Departments

Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced three FY 2019 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) awards in the First Congressional District. In addition, he announced three FY 2020 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program - COVID-19 Supplemental (AFG-S) awards, made possible by the CARES Act. The Manchester Fire Department, the Hartford Fire Department, and the Bristol Fire Department each received FY19 AFG awards; and, the Windsor Fire Department, the Glastonbury Fire Department, and the Connecticut Fire Academy each received FY20 AFG-S awards. This funding is being provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency.
"Our firefighters are on the frontlines responding to emergencies of all types in times of crisis and times of stability. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they have stepped up in an extraordinary way to serve their communities. This funding is critical to ensuring our firefighters are able to safely and efficiently respond to calls. I am so proud of the work of our local fire departments who not only protect their communities but compete for these federal dollars," said Larson.
