Larson Announces $1.7 Million in Federal Funding for First District Fire Departments

Hartford, CT – Today Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced that Fire Departments in Winsted, Portland, Southington, Middletown, East Hartland, and Hartford received a combined $1.7 million in Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG).
"Our firefighters go above and beyond to serve our communities, and have stepped up in a big way during this pandemic. I am so proud of the work that they do day in and day out to keep our towns safe, especially during these challenging times we find ourselves in. This funding will ensure they are able to safely and efficiently do their jobs under the most difficult circumstances," said Larson.
FY2019 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG)
- PORTLAND, CT – Portland Fire Department – $208,720 for firefighter breathing apparatus
- WINSTED, CT – Winsted Fire Department (Regional Grant) – $680,761.90 for portable radios, mobile radios and radio base stations
- SOUTHINGTON, CT – Southington Fire Department – $69,842.73 for installation of a fire sprinkler system
- MIDDLETOWN, CT – CT State Fire Training Academy – $434,782.61 for vehicle acquisition, aerial apparatus
- EAST HARTLAND, CT – East Hartland Volunteer Fire Dept. Inc – $94,761.90 for firefighter breathing apparatus
- MIDDLETOWN, CT – South Fire District –$53,950.26 for technical rescue training & equipment
