Larson Announces $16 Million Greater Hartford Mobility Study Included in Infrastructure Funding Package

June 7, 2021

Hartford, CT – Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced that his $16 million Community Funding Project request for the Greater Hartford Mobility Study was included in the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America Act (the INVEST in America Act).

"I'm pleased to announce that $16 million to fund the Greater Hartford Mobility Study was included in the INVEST in America Act," said Larson. "This is a project of national significance. For too long, Hartford has been divided and cut off from its river by I-84 and I-91. Design flaws of the Eisenhower-era that isolate the mostly Black North Hartford neighborhood and prevent economic development in Hartford and East Hartford cannot stand. This study is the next step forward to fix the mistakes of the past and transform the region. I will continue to work with House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Peter DeFazio, who has visited Hartford many times, to get this critical funding across the finish line."

Rep. Larson has been a longstanding proponent of removing the I-84/91 interchange. Recently, he has worked with the Hartford 400 group on their proposal that would recapture our riverfront in Hartford and East Hartford, reconnect the North End of Hartford to the rest of the city, expand intermodal transportation, and reclaim valuable land in East Hartford. The INVEST in America is being taken up by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday.
