Connecticut Congressional Delegation Announces More Than $14.6 Million to Expand Statewide Electric Vehicle Charging Network

January 11, 2024

Washington, D.C. -  Today, Reps. John B. Larson (CT-01), Joe Courtney (CT-02), Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Jim Himes (CT-04), Jahana Hayes (CT-05), and Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy announced $14,652,800 in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to build out a statewide electric vehicle charging network across Connecticut.

“The entire Connecticut delegation worked hard to secure funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to make electric vehicles more accessible to Connecticut residents and ensure our states continues to be a leader in the fight to combat climate change and reduce pollution,” said Congressman John B. Larson (CT-01). “Alongside new incentives Democrats enacted to boost domestic manufacturing and lower the cost of electric vehicles for consumers, today’s announcement is an investment in America’s clean energy future.”

“This tremendous $14.6 million investment in Connecticut’s electric vehicle and clean energy infrastructure will help create greener, more energy efficient transportation options and reduce carbon emissions. I am thrilled to see this investment made in Connecticut’s EV infrastructure and will continue to push for funding for clean energy systems in our communities,” said Senator Richard Blumenthal.

“If we want to cut emissions and save the planet, we need more electric cars on the road. One of the biggest challenges we face in achieving that goal is building out the charging network. Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we’re investing $14.6 million in federal funding to make sure EV charging stations are available in every corner of the state,” said Senator Chris Murphy.

“Across the district from the Quiet Corner to the shoreline, I have witnessed first-hand the shift in focus to ensure that energy efficient transportation options are accessible to our communities.  With this 14.6 million federal investment in Connecticut’s EV infrastructure, our state will continue to be a leader in addressing climate change for our nation.” said Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02).

“Electric vehicles are the future and Connecticut is making strides toward becoming a model for creating a national EV system with this new funding for electric vehicle charging,” said Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03). “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law makes the most robust investment in electric vehicle charging in our nation’s history, and I am proud that over $14.6 million of this funding will be coming to Connecticut. Building a national network of charging stations delivers more higher-paying jobs, cleaner vehicles which generate less pollution, and ultimately puts more money in the American people’s pockets. These funds from the bipartisan infrastructure law will ensure that Connecticut stays ahead in building the infrastructure of our nation’s future.”

“Electric vehicles will play a critical role in creating a cleaner economy, but they are useless without adequate infrastructure. This nearly $15 million grant, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will allow Connecticut to build out the charging stations necessary to support electric vehicles statewide. I am proud to support this project that will not only make Connecticut cleaner, but will also connect neighborhoods, bring jobs to the district, and bolster a flourishing domestic manufacturing industry,” said Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04).

“With over 35,000 registered electric vehicles in Connecticut and the announcement of 50 clean school buses on the way, the need for EV chargers could not be greater. This federal funding invests in our infrastructure and puts the state on a path towards reducing our carbon footprint, lowering greenhouse emissions and preparing for the future.” said Congresswoman Jahana Hayes (CT-05).

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will receive $14.6 million in federal infrastructure funding to expand Connecticut’s electric vehicle charging network, especially by increasing access to electric vehicle infrastructure in rural communities, from the Northwest Corner to the shoreline, and ensuring community charging stations are located near intermodal transportation centers.
