Hartford nonprofit getting $500K from federal government to help young adults

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A nonprofit in Hartford is getting $500,000 from the federal government in attempt to prevent juvenile crime.
“Our Piece of the Pie” provides comprehensive support services to people between the ages of 14 and 24 to help them meet their goals and prevent juvenile crime. The funding will help the group with educational and job training opportunities.
“These funds ensure that wraparound supports like the mentoring that we do, the connection to education that we do and the life skills and financial training that we do continue to be a hallmark of our overall work,” Our Piece of the Pie CEO Hector Rivera said.
Congressman John Larson (D) secured the money as part of a government funding package that passed in the House in January.
