With the tax filing deadline of April 17th quickly approaching, I wanted to share with you some resources that may be helpful.
- Information on this year’s filing date can be found under their press release section on January 4, 2018. You can also visit IRS.gov/GetReady for tips on preparing to file your 2017 tax return.
- The IRS offers assistance for Veterans and has a partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). To find out more information on what services are available to veterans, please visit the IRS’ website here.
- Assistance from the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services can be found on their website, and a list of their offices can be found here.
- The AARP has also compiled a list of a free tax preparation help.
Crumbling Foundations: If you are a homeowner suffering from crumbling foundations and have made or will be making foundation repairs, you may qualify for federal tax relief. Read more about the casualty loss provisions that Rep. Joe Courtney and I were able to secure.
Additionally, there are more than $1 billion in unclaimed 2014 tax refunds. The LAST day to file for them is April 17th, 2018. Visit the IRS’ website to learn more.
If you run into an issue with the IRS and need assistance, please feel free to call my Hartford office at 860-278-8888 or send me an email. You can also reach out to the National Taxpayer Advocate here.
