As Trump Continues to Threaten Greenland, Larson Cosponsors Urgent Bill to Protect NATO Allies from Illegal Invasions
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced the introduction of the bipartisan No Funds for NATO Invasion Act to prohibit the use of federal funds for an invasion of any NATO member state or NATO-protected territory, following Trump’s threats to invade Greenland.
“After ignoring Congress to carry out an unauthorized military operation in Venezuela, President Trump has set his sights on a NATO ally in Greenland,” said Larson. “We cannot write off his tweets as idle threats. The United States Congress must rein him in now before he destroys our global security and make it clear that we stand with our allies. Our No Funds for NATO Invasion Act will send a clear message to President Trump and the world that no matter what the President says, NATO will stand strong. I hope more of my Republican colleagues will step up to safeguard our nation and world before this rogue president blows up NATO for his own vanity.”
The No Funds for NATO Invasion Act would:
Prohibit any federal funds from being made available for the invasion of a NATO member state or any territory protected by Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
Prohibit any officer or employee of the United States from taking any action to execute an invasion of a NATO member state or any territory protected by Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty .
