Larson Votes to Reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for H.R.1620, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2021 (VAWA). Under a GOP-led Congress, VAWA expired in 2018. In 2019, a Democratic-led House passed the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019 by a strong bipartisan vote. Unfortunately, the GOP-led Senate then failed to bring up the bill for a vote.
"Since its enactment in 1994, the Violence Against Women Act has led to a 63 percent decrease in domestic violence. Unfortunately, Congressional Republicans in the pockets of the NRA have blocked the reauthorization of this vital legislation because it would close loopholes in current firearm laws to prevent intimate partner and stalking homicides. I'm proud to vote for this life-saving legislation today and will push for its enactment," said Larson.
