Larson Votes for Emmett Till Antilynching Act

February 28, 2022

Washington, D.C. - Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, which passed the House today. This legislation would explicitly designate lynching as a hate crime under federal law.

"Today, we honor Emmett Till and every person who has been killed by lynching. I am proud to vote for the Emmett Till Antilynching Act as we take a step towards rightfully labeling this horrific act a hate crime," said Larson. "99 percent of lynching perpetrators escaped punishment because these crimes are prosecuted at the local, not federal, level. As this year's Black History Month comes to a close, we must honor the Black community with action. I urge the Senate to make this bill law."
