Larson Votes to Create Active Shooter Alert System

July 13, 2022

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for the House passage of the Active Shooter Alert Act (H.R. 6538) to train and enable law enforcement to send warning alerts within their communities during the event of an active shooter.

Law enforcement shouldn’t be relying on social media to alert the public about dangerous situations. As we continue the fight in Congress to address gun violence, these alerts will protect innocent lives during a mass shooting,” said Larson. “I urge my Senate colleagues to pass the Active Shooter Alert Act as well as the other gun-safety legislation the House has already passed. Americans want commonsense reforms that will save lives, and the Senate filibuster cannot keep standing in the way. We made progress with the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which was recently signed into law, but our nation needs more.”
