Larson Votes Against Republican Bill to Raise Household Energy Costs
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against House Republicans’ energy funding bill that would raise costs for families and eliminate good-paying jobs.
“Middle-class families cannot afford the Republican agenda – raising household costs while the wealthy are showered with new tax breaks,” said Larson. “For a Republican majority who pledged to lower prices, they have done everything but. Thanks to their budget, 300 workers in our state’s energy sector are getting pink slips, and the average Connecticut household will pay over $300 more next year for their utilities. Today, they voted to slash our nation’s energy efficiency program in half, hiking energy bills even further. This is a non-starter for Connecticut families who already have some of the highest utility costs in the nation. House Democrats are ready to work on real solutions to lower costs and unleash America’s clean energy future, not decimate a program that helps families save hundreds on their electricity bills.”
The House Republican funding bill raises energy costs for American families by slashing the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy programs by $1.6 billion, including $2.1 million for Connecticut.
Households who participate in the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP)save on average $372 or more per year.
These energy efficiency efforts also support 8,500 jobs nationwide.
