Larson Votes Against Default on America Act
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against the Default on America Act, extreme MAGA Republican legislation that presents Americans with a terrible choice: either House Republicans hold our economy hostage or inflict cuts that hurt everyday people, including programs like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP nutrition benefits.
“We must pay our bills and prevent a devastating default on our debt- something Congress has done under both Republican and Democratic presidents, but today, House Republicans are threatening to wreck our economy unless they get the cuts to programs like Social Security and Medicare they demand,” said Larson. “Their legislation today would make cuts far and wide, from public safety to veterans’ care. 226,000 people in Connecticut would be at risk to losing their Medicaid coverage! I will continue to fight alongside my Democratic colleagues to protect these vital programs from dangerous cuts and instead address the issues Americans want, such as gun violence, lowering costs, and creating good-paying jobs.”
